When importing an EDI document, you have a choice of workflows: Automatic and Simple.
Automatic Workflow
The automatic workflow is the core of AngelTrack's billing system. It decides where to route each receivable, in response to new payment events and to changes in the billing fields (payor, postprocess status, balance, et cetera).
You can see the automatic workflow at the bottom of the Payment Event Add page, where you are offered the choice of fully- versus semi-automatic workflow processing, as well as manual override.
It is smart and diligent, sometimes even deciding to un-finish a receivable based on new EOBs arriving from insurance carriers.
Simple Workflow
The simple workflow is an older, simpler algorithm that AngelTrack uses to interpret X12.835 EOBs as they are imported. This algorithm looks at the carrier's adjudication and decides whether to refile, appeal, send to invoicing, or write off the trip.
The simple workflow was the AngelTrack standard until 2020-April, when it was superceded by the smarter and bolder automatic workflow. It is still offered for the benefit of those who prefer to see -- during EDI import -- estimates of what the workflow results will be, which the automatic workflow does not show owing to the complexity of its calculations.
The simple workflow is not good at handling unusual EOBs, nor those which arrive after a trip goes to invoicing or writeoff.
