Round Trip Claims

How to file a special claim for the two legs of a round trip, such as a wait-and-return.

The Coding page offers a "Pickup quantity" control that allows you to file a single claim for two picks and two mileages, rather than filing a pair of claims (one for each trip) as would be usual.

This is used for special cases where a carrier requires a single claim for a round-trip, such as for certain wait-and-return services.

This is for Irregular Carrier Requirements Only

This feature is intended for use only when you must meet an unusual requirement from an insurance carrier.

Otherwise, file your round-trip claims as pairs of separate claims, in the normal way, so that AngelTrack can track the two claims separately, in case one is denied but the other approved.

How it Works

The Coding page will offer you a "Pickup quantity" selector only if you are coding the outbound leg of a round-trip pair.

When you set the "Pickup quantity" selector to 2, then the following will happen:

  1. AngelTrack will automatically mark the return-trip as non-billable, since the outbound trip will be covering both claims.
  2. When you batch it up, AngelTrack will emit a single claim for two pickups of the selected service code and for twice the mileage of the outbound leg. All other service lines (oxygen, waiting time, supplies) are not doubled, so select the appropriate quantities to cover the entire round trip.
  3. If you later receive a paper EOB and input it into a payment event, AngelTrack will assume that the pickup and mileage quantities are still doubled. It is not possible to input an approval for one leg of the trip but a denial of the other.
  4. Whatever price and PR get adjudicated by the carrier, AngelTrack will honor in any subsequent patient invoice, although the invoice will show only a single row in its trips list.
